These tasty treats go very well with a good café con leche.

Hazelnut Cookies


¾ cup shortening
1 ¼ cups brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
¾ teaspoon baking soda
¾ teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups chopped hazelnuts


Cream in a large bowl, shortening and brown sugar at medium speed to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Add egg, milk, vanilla, beating until mixture is light and creamy, about 2 minutes.

Combine flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Add them gradually to creamy mixture, beating on low speed in order to combine everything. Stir in the hazelnuts.

Place small balls of dough by the spoonful on ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them. Bake at 375 F for 8-9 minutes to get soft and chewy cookies.
